Oíche Shamhna, Blessed Samhain! Today marks the calendar Samhain, the beginning of the Seasonal Year. The astronomical date is 6 Nov, the mid-way point between the Autumn Equinox & Winter Solstice.
The whole month is Samhain in the Irish Calendar, a time of endings and beginnings. The spiralling inwards to the dark time of year and honouring the deep feminine within as the Cailleach watches over the land, sky & sea.
Samhain
It is time for the wheel to turn
Letting go of the past for the new to begin
The veil between the worlds is thin
Can you hear the whispers?
Our ancestors & those who came before
The wisdom that was gathered is within
Lighting a candle for all that has passed
Leading the way for those in their last breath
Grace is the key to pass through the darkness
The souls deep knowing guiding the way
It is beyond reason or understanding
Yet it is as natural as day turns to night
Clearing out what is old or not needed
Making space for what is true to come home
The long out breath of Winter is holy
Tending to the hearth and essentials
In following nature we have all that we need
For the deep rest and surrender
Embracing this time brings grief & joy
Like the nutrients in the soil replenishing
Death is the greatest teacher to celebrate life
Le Grá,
Tara
